Joris Brouwers & Nicky Zwaan

This week we've been thinking about warmth versus austerity in spaces, and looking at the Joris Brouwers & Nicky Zwaan apartment featured over at FvF. It's a beautiful space with a wonderful color palette.

What stood out to us: the natural light coming through two floor windows really warms up an otherwise cold space. With an austere shell like this, it takes a lot to compensate for all the cement. If you really wanted to change the mood of the room above, rugs and textiles could add significant warmth.

As usual, the greenery and wood tones help, too. A question that came up for us: Why does wood as a material add a warm tone to rooms? We're still discussing, trying to figure that one out. Photographs by Jordi Huisman.
